The purpose of the interpretation within the Natura Mura project is to inform visitors about the importance of the Natura 2000 Mura area and the Natura Mura project, and to raise their awareness of the importance of nature conservation. Imaginatively and attractively designed interpretation polygons, learning paths and interpretation centers along the Mura River offer the possibility of a comprehensive experience of the various habitats and living creatures of the Mura River and their connection with humans.
An information center will be established in Sladki vrh with the aim of increasing knowledge and respect for nature among the local population and visitors. It will be dedicated to the Mura River, riparian habitats and the description of current factors that threaten the habitats, as well as the presentation of the Natura 2000 area and the Mura Biosphere Reserve.
The green snaketail is a dragonfly and is a type of lowland river that is vitally connected to the sandbanks. Due to the strengthening of the banks and the lack of inflow of gravel from Austria, the condition of the habitats is poor, especially in the section from Šentilj to Veržej. In order to raise public awareness, an interpretation polygon will be set up at the bicycle bridge in Črnci, which will explain and promote the conservation of the snake species and the preservation of the biodiversity of the Natura 2000 network.
In the area of Mura there are approximately 1,820 ha of the habitat type willow, alder and ash. The condition of the softwood bow is the worst in the area of the Mur border with Austria. In order to raise public awareness, a learning trail will be upgraded in Lisjakova struga, which will explain and promote the preservation of the addressed habitat type and the preservation of the biodiversity of the Natura 2000 network.
For the European fire-bellied toad along the Mura, the key habitats are the floodplain of the river with permanent pools and dead bodies. Threats to the species are the disappearance of its habitat due to filling up, dredging and overgrowing of marshes and marshes. For the purpose of public awareness, a learning trail will be established to explain and promote the conservation of the addressed species and the biodiversity of the Natura 2000 network.
Oak-aspen-elm forests are typical lowland forests that thrive on developed soils and are flooded only at high water levels. An important threat to the forest is the changed hydromorphological conditions, which lower the ground water and prevent regular floods. In order to raise public awareness, an interpretation polygon will be set up at the Krog ship, which will explain and promote the conservation of the addressed habitat type and encourage the preservation of the biodiversity of the Natura 2000 network.
An interpretation information center will be established in Veržej to present the qualifying species and habitat types of the Natura 2000 area and the Mura Biosphere Reserve. The purpose of the center will be to present the importance of preserving biodiversity in Natura 2000 areas and the Mura Biosphere Reserve.
The otter inhabits the entire course of the Mura River. The keys to the habitat structure are rugged banks, inlets, pools, side arms and backwaters. Changed hydromorphology and loss of connectivity of habitats due to impassable barriers is the main threat to otters. In order to raise public awareness, an interpretation training ground will be established to explain and encourage the preservation of the otter and the biodiversity of the Natura 2000 area.
The Graphoderus bilineatus lives in marshes in a completely natural state with lots of aquatic vegetation. Eggs are laid on aquatic plants by the water kelp. Recently, it has been recorded at only two locations along the Mur. For the purpose of raising public awareness, the already existing learning path in Mota will be upgraded. The learning trail will explain and promote the conservation of the addressed species and the biodiversity of the Natura 2000 sites.
In recent years, the beaver has resettled along the Mura river. Its habitat is the river bed with side arms and dead bodies. The key threat to the preservation of the beaver is the stopped natural processes of the creation of aquatic and forest habitats along the river. For the purpose of raising public awareness, an interpretation polygon will be established at Razkrižje, which will explain and promote the preservation of the beaver species and the preservation of the biodiversity of the Natura 2000 area.
The medium woodpecker's habitat is various types of floodplain forests with a lot of dead woody biomass. The key threat to the conservation status of the species is the disappearance of such forests along the Mura. For the purpose of public awareness, the existing Bobri learning trail will be upgraded, which will explain the conservation of the medium clover species and the preservation of the biodiversity of the Natura 2000 network.
The traditional cultural landscape along the Mur offers a home to a large number of rare and endangered species. Due to changes in agriculture and the way of life of the people along the river, it is increasingly disappearing today. An interpretation center will be established in Velika Polana, which will raise public awareness of the cultural landscape, its heritage and its importance for nature conservation.
The living environment of the large white-faced darter dragonfly is tied to a few old corpses, which are drying up rapidly. This represents a key threat to the existence of the species along the Mur. For the purpose of raising awareness among visitors to the area, an interpretation training ground will be established, which will promote the conservation of the addressed species and the biodiversity of the Natura 2000 network.
